Dear all,

Reference code: ASME B31.3.

I have qualified WPS for material ASTM A182 F51, UNS 31803 (P-number: 10H) using GMAW process with filler metal ER 2209-16. Provided that the thickness range is covered, can I weld material ASTM A182 F53, UNS 32750 (P-number: 10H) using the same WPS?

Any suggestion in metallurgical point of view?

Dear Mohd,

Both of two materials have P-number: 10H, so you can use the existing qualified procedure (provided that it is in line with ASME B31.3 requirements) and issue a new WPS that will specify the material ASTM A182 F53.

Duplex stainless steel offers excellent resistant to corrosion and very high mechanical strength. The high corrosion resistance of duplex stainless steel ensures significantly more uptime than carbon steels and conventional stainless steels, while the mechanical strength allows for lighter constructions, more compact system design and less welding.

super-duplex stainless steel; a high-alloy duplex steel with a PRE value of min. 42*. The grade is characterized by very good chloride corrosion resistance, combined with very high mechanical strength. Sandvik SAF 2507 is particularly suited for use in aggressive environments such as warm chlorinated seawater and acidic, chloride containing media.
