T K Y Procedure Qualification as per EN 15614

Dear All,

Kindly share your valuable suggestions on a Welding Procedure Qualification that we are about to conduct as per EN 15614 for a T K Y Connection. Thickness range to be qualified is 18 to 50 mm. Dia range to be qualified is 600mm to 1300 mm - OD. Material is S460 Q. Shall we use a Pipe to Plate configuration? What all test you have used for qualifying such a procedure? Please advise and share your experiences.

Thanking for your valuabe time and looking forward to hear from you,

Best regards

Hari

Dear Hari4777,

The T, K and Y joints are included in the category of "Branch connection" (par. 6.2.4 of EN 15614-1:2004), so the test piece shall be prepared in accordance with Figure 4 of EN 15614-1. The tests that you have to conduct are specified on Table 1 depending on the joint if it is full penetration or fillet weld. Regarding range of qualification for thickness and diameter please have a look at paragraphs 8.3.2.2 and 8.3.2.3 respectively as well as for the range of qualification for the angle of those branch connections please have a look at par. 8.3.3. If the angle is greater or equal to 60º then the qualification could be done on pipe butt joint (par. 8.4.3 b). As for the qualification range of material please have a look at Table 3. If you are to weld branch pipe to pipe then in no way you could have a pipe to plate configuration for the qualification since as per the EN 15614-1 you have to weld branch pipe to pipe for the qualification as well.

Hope that helps,
regards
