Welder's continuity record

Welder's continuity record

Postby smart22ash » Mon Nov 17, 2014 8:22 am

Dear Experts ,
Is there any criteria for welder continuty if a qualified welder do not weld for 6 months as per "API 1104 ". Here I am having doubt because as per ADMA specification , nothing is mentioned for welder continuity as like ASME sec IX / AWS D1.1 for 6 month validity of a qualified welder . DNV 101 also refers only standards but nothing is mentioned .So after 6 months wether I should continue with the same welders without qualification or I have to qualify those welders again and if yes whait would be the criteria for continuty .

smart22ash,
This is the only thing I could find in API 1104,
"A welder may be required to requalify if
a question arises about his competence."
Based on that it would appear there is no requirement for welder continuity records, however - it may be beneficial to you to continue with 6 monthly records as a new client may require all your welders to be retested.
If you have records to show welder continuity (especially volumetric test reports) you may be able to get a partial or full waiver of testing saving you time & money,
